Coolest Travel Intern Winners

AND THEN THERE WERE TWO:
So this was tough; making the final decision on the Coolest Travel Interns. The entire process ended up taking three weeks longer than I wanted and it went from a request on Twitter to making it to print newspapers around the world. Even at WTM (World Travel Mart) last week, I was continually asked who was going to be the Coolest Travel Intern!
So the HR screenings were decisive. One of the questions we asked was; “Who in history would you like to have dinner with”. One person said Oprah! Three people said Lady Diana! What! In history?! Come on now.
Well I want to thank each and every person for entering and especially the entire group of finalists. So many people put their heart and soul into such creative submissions. There were some funny props and heartbreaking stories. Usually I would say there can only be one winner but actually there are two so I wont’ drag this out any further. Please help me congratulate… Mr Taylor Hess and Ms Kerri Minns!! We’re very excited to have them both onboard. Taylor is arriving from Costa Rica on Wednesday and Kerri will be joining us for Gapstock this weekend. Maybe we will dress them up as Sonny and Cher!
There are many reasons these two were chosen but ultimately it came down to culture fit. These two whiz kids will be making their way around all of the departments and it was important to find people with the right attitude to jump around and take on all of the challenges. We will make sure we work them hard so all the people who didn’t make it will feel they are glad they didn’t get the job! You will be hearing from them on a regular basis on our blog and I will tweet their reports. Thanks to everyone who helped get the word out and make this a very interesting social media exercise. This was even brought up during my visit to Google two weeks ago and who were very interested in hearing about my experience with this viral “incident”!
More updates to come as we get acquainted with our winners. Take a look at their video entries. These were supplemented with very compelling written essays on why we can’t just live without them here at basecamp. They both have big shoes to fill after such an outpouring of desire and passion for this position. We’ve ended up with not one Coolest Travel Intern but two Coolest Travel Interns! They will have to duke it out at the “Guac-off” to see who will reign supreme and clinch the Ultimate Coolest Travel Intern title!

Well, I am somewhat relieved to stop pacing in circles. I am flattered that I was in the running against such stiff and charismatic competition! Congratulations Kerri and Taylor. I’m certain the internship will be a dynamic and pivotal experience in your lives. I will look forward to your future posts and bragging! Absorb every moment.
